The Sounds of Reason

On Music

I think you need to listen to music to understand the world. Every human is like this combination lock of experiences that is so unique and complex that it can never be cracked. With musical people, their lives play they’re instruments. With a band, there are a number of impossibly different people, channelling their lives into a line of music, which words can’t describe, but it shares something about that person. When these musicians make melodies and rhythms that complement one another and fit in, you get so much feeling and such a story conveyed that there are songs powerful enough to connect to your core. - Anon

“Music is what feelings sound like.” - Anon

“Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music” - Sergei Rachmaninov

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent” – Victor Hugo

Without music life would be a mistake. ~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness. ~Maya Angelou

On Whisky

"Whisky is liquid sunshine." - George Bernard Shaw

"There are two things a Highlander likes naked, and one of them is malt whisky." – Scottish Proverb

"We frequently hear of people dying from too much drinking. That this happens is a matter of record. But the blame is always placed on whisky. Why this should be I never could understand. You can die from drinking too much of anything — coffee, water, milk, soft drinks and all such stuff as that. And so as long as the presence of death lurks with anyone who goes through the simple act of swallowing. I will make mine whisky." - W.C. Fields, 1880-1946

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much of good whisky is barely enough.” –Mark Twain

On Style

Style is something that stays with you forever, it is part of who you are. Meanwhile fashion is a trend that you can follow, that is changing. Style is more the inner you, which radiates outwards whereas fashion is something you cover the outside with, hoping to affect your inner. - Quote adapted from an interview with Guerre
